Caring For Orchids

The vanilla orchid is a unique flowering plant in the orchid family. There are currently around one hundred and ten discovered species of this beautifully scented flower, many of which are native to the warmer regions of the world.

The name, of the phalaenopsis orchid comes from the distinct look of the flower. Early botanists determined that the flower looks like a moth in flight, giving rise to the Greek name for “moth like.”

Perhaps the most unique wild orchid variety is the White Egret. This orchid originated in Asia and has become a big hit in the United States. Its unique look makes it feel like a bird in flight, and the plant is only available with white flowers. A fully mature flowering spike can have up to ten flowers and can reach a maximum height of sixteen inches.

While many people call this type of orchid the moth orchid, it is actually categorized under the name of phalaenopsis orchid. Since not many people can pronounce such a difficult Greek name, however, moth orchid has become the common name for the type of plant.

Some of the best orchid nursery options are available in both brick and mortar as well as on the web. Since the invention of the internet, more and more businesses have taken to the World Wide Web in hopes of expanding their business, and a few big name orchid nursery companies have joined in this rush to cyberspace.
